The School District of Philadelphia Inaugurates Parent and Community Resource Center
First-Ever Walk-in Resource Center to Provide Direct Support and Services to Parents
Philadelphia - Today, The School District of Philadelphia celebrated the grand opening of the District’s Parent and Community Resource Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by parents and community members. The new Center is designed to provide parents and community members with a wide array of services including in-person assistance with student and school related information and programs.
The Center is staffed by multilingual costumer service personnel Monday through Friday from 7:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. At the Center, parents and community members will have access to personal computers, internet access, printer and fax services and meeting space. The Center will host a series of ongoing workshops and seminars on topics varying from student re-enrollment to college financial aid. The resource center is located in the first floor of the District’s main office located at 440 North Broad Street.
"I am delighted to celebrate, along with our parents and community members, the grand opening of this very much needed resource center," said Superintendent Arlene C. Ackerman. "This is just one more example of the District refocusing its resources in order to place children first."
The Center was born from Superintendent Ackerman’s commitment to transform the District into a costumer service focused organization. Other steps taken earlier this school year to improve costumer service includes the expansion of operating hours for administrative offices, restructuring of regional and program offices, creation of a Parent and Community Ombudsmen positions in approximately 128 schools, and the installation of costumer suggestion boxes in every public building in the District.
The overall goal of the Center is to provide parents and community members with direct support to improve student achievement and to increase engagement and partnership in the District’s schools.
