Fox Chase Farm! [K – 3 classes attend once a week throughout the school year]

The purpose of the Fox Chase Farm is to educate the school children and families of Philadelphia about agriculture through hands-on experiences on the Farm and in the classroom. In the course of a year, school children visit the Farm as a field trip opportunity and engage in events through the Agriculture Empowerment Program. The Philadelphia School District brings the experience of agriculture into the hands of the public firsthand.

FirstHand [7th & 8th grade students attend once a week for two semesters]

FirstHand offers free year-round, STEM learning for middle and high school students and is designed to provide skills-based career exposure. Our FirstHand Lab connects local students to Philadelphia’s entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem. Our industry-informed curricula provide real-world, hands-on experience to open doors for the minds of tomorrow.

TechCORE2 [K – 8 open to all students as part of our Saturday STEAM Academy]

TechCORE2 is a Technology Pipeline Program led by a group of college students. In TechCORE2, your student will have the opportunity to learn from College mentors who are trained in WordPress Website Development, Scratch Coding, and Robotics.

BushFire Theatre of the Performing Arts Big Book Club [ 5th – 8th grade students have session once a week]

The Big Book Club invites Philadelphia students to collaborate around a literary experience. The Big Book Club is facilitated by Bushfire Theatre resident artists, Rowan University and Temple University literacy faculty, and pre-service teachers. Students engage in crafting Life Histories in response to young adult literature.

Science Olympiad [ 6 – 8 students meet after school to prepare for science-based competitions]

Science Olympiad competitions are like academic track meets, consisting of 23 team events in each division. Some events are rotated each year to reflect the ever-changing nature of genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering, and technology. By combining events from all disciplines, Science Olympiad encourages a wide cross-section of students to get involved. Emphasis is placed on active, hands-on group participation. Through Science Olympiad, students, teachers, parents, principals, and business leaders bond and work toward a shared goal.

Yoga 4 Philly [K – 8 students meet once a week]

Yoga 4 Kids’ Mission is to invest in the mental, emotional, social/cultural, and physical well-being of kids so that they are equipped and empowered to be mindful people in the world.

The Clay Studio [K – 8 students attend once a week]

Claymobile residencies are a series of weekly ceramics classes that typically last between 6 and 12 weeks. Students who participate in a 6-week residency will complete 4-5 functional and sculptural projects for them to keep. Ideally, each session is 90 minutes in length.

Coded By Kids [7th & 8th grade students attend once a week for two semesters]

Our coding and entrepreneurship class, Intro to Innovation, follows a project-based learning curriculum designed to expose students to foundational content in web design, problem-solving, and business creation. This 36-hour course covers essential aspects of developing a startup business idea, including building a website to showcase the concept.
