Free Transportation for More Students


The School District of Philadelphia continues to provide free transportation services, including free transpasses, to the students indicated below:

Students who are eligible to receive free transportation

  • Grades 7 – 12 who live 1.5 miles or more from school
  • Grades 1 – 6 who live 1.5 miles or more from their neighborhood school
  • Grades 1 – 8 who live near a Hazardous Route
  • Grades 1 – 12, Desegregation
  • Grades 1 – 12 who live 1.5 miles or more from school, Overcrowding
  • Special Education, by IEP

Note: This program is for Philadelphia public, charter, private and archdiocesan students

Transpass Information
  • Passes will be distributed at the school on a weekly basis.
  • To obtain FREE Transpasses, a student must be a resident of the city.
  • Transpasses may be used Monday – Friday from 5:30am – 7:00pm and are only valid during the school year.
  • If you have questions, contact your school's principal or administrator.

PSTV Schedule

PSTV is the School District of Philadelphia's cable televisions station. Programming includes:

  • School Span - A half-hour television magazine format, reported and hosted by students.
  • Science Programs - Science of Philadelphia for Grades 5 - 8, Science Lab with Grand Hank - Grades 8 - 12.
  • Chew This - The program focuses on educating students and their parents regarding the link between good nutrition and good health.

Skills Booster Project offers training that will help School District para-professionals earn 20 hours of PD credits

The Skills Booster Project, sponsored by the Mayor’s Commission on Literacy, will provide an estimated $1.5 million in training for School District supportive service assistants (SSAs), classroom assistants, bus attendants, bus drivers, school police, food service workers, custodial assistants, general cleaners and noon-time aides (NTAs). Courses include computer literacy, reading, writing and math.

Sixty-six of the School District of Philadelphia’s best teachers were honored with the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award at a festive ceremony at the Prince Music Theater in Philadelphia.

The School District of Philadelphia has announced a list of fourteen schools that will move forward as Renaissance Schools for the 2010-2011 school year. The Renaissance Schools initiative, a major component of the School District’s five-year strategic plan, Imagine 2014, looks to turn around chronically underperforming schools.

Data for the first half of 2009-2010 indicate the District’s continued success in expanding opportunities for minority and female-owned businesses

Minority/Women Business Enterprise (M/WBE) participation in School District design and construction, professional services, and procurement opportunities in the first half of 2009-2010 exceeded the District’s overall goal of 20% participation in the first two categories and is on track to meeting or exceeding it for the year in the third category.

The Philadelphia Orchestra to hold its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Concert at Martin Luther King High School on Monday, January 18, 2010.

CIGNA presents The Philadelphia Orchestra's FREE Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute Concert for 20th consecutive year. Guest Conductor Thomas Wilkins will lead the Orchestra, joined by narrator Charlotte Blake Alston and the School District of Philadelphia's All-City Choir in a program that celebrates the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Free tickets for the concert are available after January 4, 2010. December 16, 2009 - Youth Heart Watch at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and School District of Philadelphia Partner to Save Students’ Lives

Youth Heart Watch at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia presented an automated external defibrillator (AED) to every middle school in the School District of Philadelphia. The District middle schools that will receive the AED machines are: A.M.Y. at James Martin, A.M.Y. Northwest, Baldi, Barratt, Beeber, Clemente, Conwell, Feltonville School of Arts and Sciences, Harding, Hill-Freedman, Jones, LaBrum, Leeds, Meehan, Middle Years Alternative (MYA), Penn Treaty, Pepper, Roosevelt, Shaw, Sheridan West, Stetson, Tilden, Edwin Vare, Wagner, Grover Washington and Woodrow Wilson.
