Myron J. Patterson

Myron J. Patterson holds the Civil Service rank of Chief Inspector with the Philadelphia Police Department. Chief Patterson accepted the temporary assignment as Chief Safety Executive, Office of School Safety for the School District of Philadelphia on Monday, August 16, 2010.

Chief Patterson is a 25-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department. He began his career as a Patrolman in the 35th Police District in 1985. Chief Patterson has had a broad range of assignments and varied disciplines during his career. These assignments have included tours of duties as Commanding Officer of 22nd Police District and Narcotic Field Unit-North. Tours of Duty at the rank of Staff Inspector included assignments with Management Analysis Bureau, Internal Affairs Bureau and Special Operations/Counter Terrorism Bureaus performing Productivity/Efficiency analysis and investigations of Departmental Districts, Units and Divisions. Chief Patterson served as the Divisional Commanding Officer of Southwest Police Division, overseeing the daily operations of four (4) Police Districts and one (1) Detective Division. As Commanding Officer of the Domestic Response and Patrol Division of the Homeland Security Bureau, he was responsible for the daily operations of SWAT, Homeland Security, Airport and the Civil Affairs Units. Operational units within this command included: Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) working extensively with the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the Dignitary Protection Unit and Counter Terrorism Operations Unit. Additionally, Chief Patterson has worked and liaison with many Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement agencies as well as both Private and Community based Organizations and Businesses. He has worked extensively with the Office of Emergency Management in developing emergency plans for the Philadelphia Police Department and the City.

Chief Patterson holds a Masters of Science degree in Public Safety Management from Saint Joseph's University and Bachelor of Science degree in Community Development from the Pennsylvania State University. He is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy (Class 214) and the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement and Administration Commanders Academy (2000).

He is a subscribing member to Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), Omega Psi Phi Fraternity (Mu Omega Chapter) and Penn State Alumni Association.

Chief Patterson was born and raised in the Strawberry Mansion section of the city of Philadelphia, currently resides in Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia.
