Beautifying Harrington:
Our Murals
Harrington Elementary School is proud to have two beautiful murals that were painted by her students (with help from the faculty).
African Mural on Baltimore Avenue
If you enter our school from the Baltimore Avenue side of the building, you will be welcomed in by the mural of Kente cloth symbols and patterns. It was designed and printed directly on the wall by our third grade students. To see more of this stunning creation, check out the following photos:

Harrington Annex Sealife Mural - NEW!
Dolphins and tiger sharks and starfish, oh my! In the 1999-2000 school year, the children and faculty of the Harrington Annex building poured their energy and their hearts into creating a lively, colorful mural. Children from five kindergarten classes and one first grade class eagerly volunteered their time to paint, sometimes not even during school hours. Under the direction and supervision of kindergarten Literacy Intern Margaret Vaughn, the ocean-themed mural was completed by June 2000. It was dedicated in loving memory to Andrew Gallagher, a former teacher and friend of the Harrington family. The sealife theme was chosen because, as his friends will tell you, Andy loved the sea. A touching article was written by kindergarten teacher Rita Murray and published in the West Philadelphia Cluster Connection:
Cluster Connection: Harrington Remembers 'Mr. G'
It is our hope that this mural will take on a life of its own, becoming an interactive teaching tool, as well as being a beautiful visual addition to our Annex building.
