Small Learning Communities at Harrington

Harrington School is organized into four (SLCs) Small Learning Communities: Arts Empower, Career Development, ELF (Exploration Learning Family), and SMILE (Science and Math in Literature Everywhere). SLCs are a key strategy of the Children Achieving Agenda. Small Learning Communities at Harrington are heterogeneous and committed to enabling all students to achieve at high levels. Our SLCs provide ongoing, multi-age relationships among students, teachers and parents. There is a sense of shared responsibility for student outcomes and high-quality, instructionally-based shared decision making.

Each small learning community has a coordinator who provides structure and guidance for the community. The coordinator haw a minimum of three released periods per day for SLC responsibilities. Our Title I budget is used to provide released time for our small learning community coordinators.
