Artist in Residence

  • Overview and philosophy: The Home and School Association in cooperation with the Music and Arts teachers invites an external Artist-in-Residence each year to join and enrich our school community. This partnership compliments our commitment to and appreciation of the arts as a key part of our student's education. Each residency is typically an intensive 6-8 weeks and takes place in the Spring. Community-based artists, rostered with the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts, integrate their work into the curriculum, teach small core groups of students elements of self-expression and artistic endeavor as well as work in their media.

  • Staff involved and contact information: Depending on the focus of the residency, either or Art or Music teacher is responsible for the project. The Home and School can also be contacted for more information.

  • Student eligibility and selection criteria:Typicall the Artist-in-Residence will work with our 4th and 5th graders.

  • Meeting times and places: All activities take place during regular school hours at the school. However students often also take part in a variety of interesting and related field trips as a part of the program.

  • Cost: The program is typically funded by a grant from the Pennsylvania County Council of the Arts, the Home and School Association and other funders. The program is free to the students.

  • Special events: We welcome special events and any opportunity for the students to show of their work. In the past, special events have included performances and exhibits.

  • Special committments or equipment: We welcome full participation. Resources are provided.
