Orchestra and Band
- Overview and philosophy: Jenks is proud of the
long history of our band and orchestra programs. We perform a variety
of music ranging from folk songs, such as 'Old MacDonald', and the
classics, such as '1812 Overture' to contemporary pop tunes such as
'Hot, Hot, Hot!'. Instruments that we teach include flute, clarinet,
saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, and drums.
- Staff involved and contact information: For more information contact Mr. Franchetti
Student eligibility and selection criteria:The band program comprising
of the wind and percussion instruments begins in 3rd grade and up.
Meeting times and places: Music lessons begin in October and are given once
a week for a 45 minute period during regular school hours.
The student is responsible for any school work missed during
that time.
Cost: Free.
Special events: Our students perform for our winter and spring concerts and
the orchestra plays for the 8th grade graduation. The string orchestra and
band will be combined to form the concert orchestra. This group consists of intermediate
to advanced students and performs music composed for the full orchestra.
- Special committments or equipment: Jenks has a limited number
of school-owned instruments that are allocated to our studens
based on a musical aptitude assessment, but anyone is welcome
to play. Students can buy or rent instruments from the local
music stores. Practicing five times a week
under parental supervision is necessary in order to participate
in this program.
