Jenks has a full-time music specialist and part-time instrumental teachers. This year, we have a special music program called POM (Performance Outreach Model), where we have instrumental teachers at Jenks four days a week, up from 3 days in previous years. Music plays an active role in the Jenks instructional program through classroom general music, choir, and the string, woodwind, and brass instrumental programs. The music education curriculum, through its interdisciplinary approach, helps children develop good social and academic skills as they learn about other cultures. Music activites include singing, dancing, movement, speech, listening, and playing instruments. A basic introduction to music theory is incorporated into all activities. Our winter concert includes choir and instrumental performances.
