On-boarding for Benefits
All the steps you need to follow to sign up for Benefits as a new hire or if you are changing positions.
Welcome to the School District of Philadelphia. After you have completed your Talent on-boarding tasks, you will receive an email from the Benefits office with a link to complete your elections. This is the same email address used when applying for your position. Emails are sent every Friday. Benefits enrollment is self-service through a Google form. You will need to be logged into your SDP G-Suite account. This is the same username and password as your SDP email address, but logged in at Google. If you do not complete your Benefits election within 30 days of your position start date, your Benefits will be waived.
Please read below for the effective date of health coverage:
PFT: If you begin work by the 15th of the month, your medical coverage will be effective the first of the following month; if you begin after the 16th and later, coverage will be effective the first of the succeeding month. The PFT 10 month contract is effective August 16. If you begin work between August 16 through September 15, medical coverage will begin October 1. If you are changing positions, benefits will begin the first of the month following your position change. Prescription, dental and vision benefits are handled by the PFT Health and Welfare Fund.
CASA: If you begin work by the 15th of the month, your health coverage will be effective the first of the following month; if you begin after the 16th and later, coverage will be effective the first of the succeeding month. If you are changing positions, benefits will begin the first of the month following your position change. The CASA 10 month contract is effective August 16.
Non-Represented: If you begin work by the 15th of the month, your health coverage will be effective the first of the following month; if you begin after the 16th and later, coverage will be effective the first of the succeeding month. If you are changing positions, benefits will begin the first of the month following your position change.
Unite Here! Local 634: Medical coverage will begin on the 90th day from your date of hire. Prescription, dental and vision benefits are handled by Unite Here! Local 634 and processed through Associated Administrators.
District 1201/32 BJ: Medical, prescription, dental, and vision benefits are handled by 32 BJ national union and should be effective on the 90th day from your date of hire.
SPAP: If you begin work by the 15th of the month, your health coverage will be effective the first of the following month; if you begin after the 16th and later, coverage will be effective the first of the succeeding month. If you are changing positions, benefits will begin the first of the month following your position change.
If you are a current employee and changing positions, but remaining Non-Represented or within the same union, your Benefits will not change. If you are changing positions and your new position is Non-Represented or represented by a different union, your new Benefits will begin the first of the following month of your position change.

Zoom sessions are available for new hires or employees changing positions. Zoom sessions are not recorded and employees are not required to attend. Small or 1 on 1 sessions can be scheduled by contacting benefits@philasd.org. Sessions are Tuesdays from 2:30-3:30.
