PHILADELPHIA — The School District of Philadelphia music students will be participating in Philly’s All-City Jazz Festival 2021, an all-day virtual event featuring student performances and Masterclasses led by Philadelphia jazz legend, renowned music educator and Philly POPS Artistic Director for Jazz Terell Stafford, Philly POPS and Philly POPS Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia artists. The event, which is presented by Philly POPS and the Kimmel Center, takes place Friday, April 30.

The program includes the All-City Jazz Showcase, presenting the most accomplished jazz students in the School District of Philadelphia. Twelve students across the District and four alumni were selected for the ensemble. Leading up to the festival, POPS in Schools leads a full slate of engagement activities for the School District of Philadelphia’s jazz program.

Philadelphia jazz legend, renowned music educator and Philly POPS Artistic Director for Jazz Terell Stafford will be the conductor for this year’s event.

The concert is held in honor of Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM), an observance celebrated every April in the United States. JAM was created in 2001 by John Edward Hasse, curator of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.
