Afternoon Update: No Additional Schools Will Shift to Virtual Learning At This Time; Notifications About Next Week

Dear School District of Philadelphia Families and Staff,

Based on this afternoon’s data review, at this time no additional schools will shift to virtual learning for students this week due to staffing challenges. We will provide the next update by 10 p.m. today.

As a reminder, all School District schools and offices will be closed on Monday, January 17 in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

We remain committed to using the most current staffing data to inform school-by-school decisions, and sharing those decisions as quickly as possible so our families can plan accordingly. For each new week of school, all schools will provide in-person learning for students unless they are identified as needing to shift to virtual due to staffing challenges or COVID-19 conditions specifically for that week. Decisions about schools that will provide virtual learning for students next week(Tuesday, January 18th through Friday, January 21st) will start tomorrow, and our schedule for updating you will change slightly due to the holiday weekend. We will share updates about next week by 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. tomorrow, and by 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Monday. The list of schools that will provide 100% virtual learning for students next week will be available at philasd.org/covidupdates starting tomorrow at 4 p.m.

Thank you and enjoy the rest of your day.

With appreciation,

Dr. William Hite
Superintendent
