Description

The Mirror is the oldest high school magazine in America, established in 1885. It is dedicated to showcasing the remarkable literary and artistic abilities of Central’s student body, and to fostering dialogues related to the arts throughout the school. It is published twice per year, once in the winter and once in the late spring. The Mirror is open to submissions in all genres, including (but not limited to) poetry, short stories, memoirs, cross-genre pieces, photography, collages, paintings and drawings.

Submissions

Any current student or alumni may submit their art or writing to Mirror for publication. While work can be published anonymously, it cannot be submitted anonymously. Students/alumni should include with their submission their name, class number, title of the work (or state that it is untitled), and the name of their English or Art teacher who may be giving extra credit.

We prefer that submissions are made using the form which prompts you to include all required content.

Staff Meetings

All Central students are welcome to join Mirror staff. At a typical meeting, students are arranged in small groups, where they discuss the literary and artistic merits of the day’s submissions, and vote on whether to include the submissions in the magazine. All submissions are anonymous when being reviewed, to prevent any possible bias on the part of the staff.
