Through our advisory model, students focus on essential personal qualities for community and successful living, advisory reading, passion projects, and plans for student-directed learning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>English Language Arts<\/strong><br \/>\nAs an Early College &amp; Passion Based School it is important for students to become excellent communicators. The Academy Canon \u2013 which are must reads for our students (e.g. Richard Wright\u2019s Native Son, Ralph Ellison\u2019s The Invisible Man, Toni Morrison\u2019s The Bluest Eye, Po Bronson\u2019s What Should I Do With My Life?, Jeff Olson\u2019s The Slightest Edge, and Dennis Kimbro\u2019s Think &amp; Grow Rich) \u2013 enables students to become intimately familiar with rich text while simultaneously learning the keys for self-empowerment and fulfillment of passion and purpose.<\/p>\n<p>During a student\u2019s senior year at the Academy, each senior produces a 50 page memoir, called The Memoir Project. Throughout the year, students read a number of memoirs and autobiographies, and engage guest speakers, writers, and university professors to assist them in penning their own story. At graduation, each student is given a published copy of excerpts from each student\u2019s memoir.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Early College<\/strong><br \/>\nStudents have the opportunity to earn college credits during their high school years.
