The Schools We Serve
Explorers of Today, Leaders of Tomorrow
The Structure
Philadelphia’s GEAR UP Network is composed of 12 partnerships, based in public high schools and serving students who live in designed empowerment zones. Over a period of 7 years, from 2014-2021, we will serve designated schools through this $29.8M project. This includes a total of 6,001 students who are served in a 2-year cohort model, which allows us to follow and track them as they move towards college. During the 2017-2021 time period, service is exclusively focused in 12 high schools listed below:
- Ben Franklin High School
- Edison High School
- Frankford High School
- Kensington High School
- Kensington Health Sciences Academy
- Kensington High School of Creative & Performing Arts
- Martin Luther King High School
- Overbrook High School
- Penn Treaty School
- Samuel Fels High School
- School of the Future
- West Philadelphia High School
The School District of Philadelphia serves as the fiscal agent of the Philadelphia GEAR UP Network. The district’s Office of Education for Employment, Philadelphia Futures, and the Philadelphia Education Fund are lead partners, providing senior project coordination and support directly to the partnerships and across the network.
How Can You Get Involved?
It will take more than just the local GEAR UP partners to make this important initiative work. Support and direct involvement from individuals, business and organizations are critical to making a difference in these students’ efforts to reach college and be successful. Volunteers and support are needed in many capacities, including mentoring, providing career exploration activities mobilizing community support and more.
