Typically, students graduate under Pathway 1 if they pass their Keystone Exams. CTE gives students another way to approach graduation under Pathway 3.<\/p>\n<p>To be eligible for this pathway, the CTE student must be considered a \u201cCTE Concentrator\u201d.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To be considered a<strong> CTE Concentrator,<\/strong> you must have been enrolled in your school\u2019s CTE program, AND you must have completed and passed 50% of your CTE requirements to-date by the time you\u2019re in 12th grade.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>CTE Concentrators must complete AT LEAST ONE of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Obtain an industry certification related to their CTE program.<\/li>\n<li>Take the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.philasd.org\/cte\/#nocti\">NOCTI<\/a> pre-test in 11th grade AND take the NOCTI post-test or equivalent in 12th grade.<\/li>\n<li>For programs that do not have a NOCTI exam, take the CTE Final Exam at the end of 12th grade.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Benefits to CTE&#8221; custom_font_container=&#8221;tag:h2|font_size:18px|text_align:left|color:%2322779f|line_height:20px&#8221; custom_google_fonts=&#8221;font_family:Roboto%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C500%2C500italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1757443896409{margin-bottom: 5px !important;}&#8221; use_custom_heading=&#8221;true&#8221; el_id=&#8221;benefits&#8221;]\n<ul>\n<li>During your time in CTE, whether it is a 1, 2, or 3 year program, you\u2019ll receive <strong>training from an industry professional.<\/strong> Class time will include hands-on training and the development of soft skills. Soft skills include things like resume-building and how to do job interviews.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Work-based learning is a crucial part of CTE.<\/strong> From guest speakers and company tours, to internships and apprenticeships, there are many ways for you to see first-hand what your career path could be.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Your education is beyond the classroom. <\/strong>Through Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs), you\u2019ll have the opportunity to compete in skills competitions, go to conferences, and apply for CTE-specific scholarships!<\/li>\n<li><strong>You can earn industry credentials<\/strong><strong>or certifications<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Certifications prove that you know what you\u2019re doing. They look good on a resume, too. These exams are offered to CTE students <strong>for free<\/strong>. They\u2019re usually taken in 11th and 12th grade.<\/li>\n<li><strong>You can earn free college credits related to your CTE Program.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Graduating from a CTE program gives you a <strong>head start<\/strong> in your college education.<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Time. That head start means you don\u2019t have to take certain introductory courses related to your CTE program. You can <strong>save yourself some time<\/strong>!<\/li>\n<li>Money. You earned those college credits\u2013<strong>for free<\/strong>! So you don\u2019t have to pay it in your college tuition.<\/li>\n<li>Experience. If you have a bachelor\u2019s degree, then you need a minimum of 2 years of related industry work experience. For example, a candidate who has worked in construction for 6 years with no bachelor\u2019s degree is qualified to teach a CTE program relating to construction!<\/p>\n<h4>I&#8217;ve never taught a classroom before. Is that ok?<\/h4>\n<p>Yes, that\u2019s ok! The School District of Philadelphia provides professional development and coaching for all new teachers who are hired. During the 2nd year of teaching, a CTE Teacher will begin taking teacher certification courses at Temple University.<\/p>\n<h4>Do I need a college degree to teach?<\/h4>\n<p>No, you do not need a college degree to teach in some programs. Qualifications vary depending on the CTE program.<\/p>\n<h4>What is being a CTE teacher like?<\/h4>\n<p>It is busy, exciting, and full of opportunities. No day is the same as the day before. You\u2019ll spend extended amounts of time with your students, which results in you having an outsized impact on a high school student&#8217;s growth, path, and outlook.
