Relay Graduate School of Education: National Principal Academy Fellowship

The Relay Graduate School of Education’s National Principals Academy Fellowship Program (NPAF) is a national program dedicated to the development of early to mid-career principals, focusing on the use of data and instructional leadership. Founded in 2012, the program consists of a 12-day summer intensive in July, followed by 4 weekend intersessions throughout the year.

Assistant Superintendents nominate principals for the program who exemplify the values of personal responsibility, openness to feedback, work ethic and relentless drive.

Since 2015, eighteen school leaders have participated in this fellowship.

Temple University and School District of Philadelphia Partnership for Early Career Leadership Development

Temple University and the School District of Philadelphia have formed a partnership to provide high-leverage, engaging professional development for early career principals and assistant principals. This collaboration is in response to school leaders’ requests for development to meet the needs of the students and staff they serve, as well as opportunities to build relationships with other school leaders across the District.

The partnership involves workshop sessions held on Saturdays and additional individualized support. The sessions are facilitated by Temple University faculty and other experts in the field.

More than 35 principals and assistant principals are participating in this opportunity in the 2017-2018 school year.

Philadelphia Pathway to Leadership in Urban Schools (PhillyPLUS) is a two-year principal certification program that prepares accomplished educators to lead dramatic improvement in our schools—and raise achievement for our students. The PhillyPLUS Residency blends intensive summer trainings and a year of hands-on practice in a local school, with support from a mentor principal and leadership coach.

We currently have 12 PhillyPlus residents working in our schools.
