"#BeMoore means being more than yourself. It is being a better version of you." - Mehki M., 5th Grade

Welcome!

Our school brand is represented by the hashtag, #BeMoore. The culture and vision that this hashtag represents runs deep through the content to the staff, community and students. Generally, to #BeMoore means to be respectful, responsible, peaceful and problem solvers. One of our very own students defined what it means to #BeMoore. He said: “#BeMoore means being more than yourself. It is being a better version of you.” This is exactly what it means to #BeMoore. JH Moore will continue to foster the culture where all students feel safe and happy. The relationships we build with our students will truly shape the future of this country.

More deeply, the culture of the school is built upon the foundation of working collectively to develop others, in regard to all tenets of the school community. The building capacity fosters the opinions and goals of individuals as well as the collective shared vision of the whole school community. Ultimately, Moore is dedicated to a happy and safe climate for everyone who enters the school. In order to achieve this, the leadership team at Moore cultivates, and values, a culture based on trust and relationships. Through staff development and growth combined with carefully designed curriculum choices, Moore school has been able to advance the students academically, particularly in Literacy.

To #BeMoore of an effective teacher, the leadership team encourages all educators to develop the whole child by using equitable learning experiences. Unlike equality, equity is grounded in the idea that all students get the support that they need, not necessarily the same support. Thus, Moore implements the Lucy Calkins Units of Study as the primary strategy for achieving equitable education and effective learning experiences for all students in literacy. The program is directly tied to the common core standards for literature and uses small group instruction, independent practice and mini lessons to tailor the content to individual student needs. The progress in literature over the past year has been great.

Continuing into the 20-21 school year, Moore school has a goal to design a culture in which students #BeMoore successful and confident in math because of revised math techniques and strategies in the classroom. In order to do so, the main tenets of Lucy Calkins Units of study will be translated to the math content. That is, the common core combined with resources such as Achieve the Core, Illustrative Math and Pearson enVision will be utilized along with blended learning, small group instruction, mini lessons and independent practice. It is of the utmost importance that all educators practice these strategies with both the math and literature content. By doing so, educators will #BeMoore able to more readily tend to their students’ specific needs.

We look forward to this year’s educational journey with you and your child.

Sincerely,

Mr. Glynn & Ms. Lord
