MTSS provides all students with equitable access to high-quality, standards-aligned instruction and supplemental intervention and\/or enrichment. Understanding the Three Tiers of MTSS\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) provides a framework for delivering targeted support to all students. This support is organized into three tiers, each designed to meet varying levels of support across academics, behavior, and social-emotional needs. Students requiring additional support remain engaged in the grade-level core curriculum while receiving supplementary interventions or enrichment. Tier 1: Core Learning for Everyone<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Tier 1 is the heart of our classrooms, where all students receive high-quality, evidence-based instruction<\/strong>. We focus on creating a strong foundation for learning through preventative measures and a positive,<\/strong>inclusive environment.<\/strong> Here, teachers differentiate their lessons to meet diverse learning styles, conduct universal screenings to identify potential needs early on,<\/strong> implement positive behavioral supports<\/strong>, and monitor the progress <\/strong>of every student to ensure everyone is on the right track.<\/p>\n

Tier 2: Strategic Support\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

When students need support beyond the core instruction, we provide strategic data-informed support at Tier 2.<\/strong> This involves providing supplemental<\/strong> interventions in small groups,<\/strong> tailored to address specific learning or behavioral challenges<\/strong>. We closely monitor their progress<\/strong>, offering more frequent check-ins and increasing the intensity of support when needed.<\/p>\n

Tier 3: Intensive Intervention<\/strong><\/h3>\n

For students who continue to face challenges even with Tier 2 support, educators provide intensive, small-group (1-3 students) interventions in Tier 3<\/strong>. This tier involves highly specialized instruction designed to meet unique needs and may involve collaboration with specialists.<\/strong> Educators maintain frequent progress monitoring <\/strong>and work closely with students and their families<\/strong> to ensure they receive the focused support they need to thrive.<\/p>\n

MTSS is a dynamic process where student progress is continuously monitored, and interventions are adjusted as needed. This ensures that students receive the appropriate level of support to achieve their full potential.<\/p>\n

To ensure comprehensive student support, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania identifies eight key components of MTSS<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

    Families are vital partners in the MTSS process, playing an important role in supporting their child’s success. The MTSS framework emphasizes proactive and continuous communication between home and school, moving beyond traditional “parent involvement” to genuine “family engagement.” Families are seen as valuable sources of information about their child’s strengths, needs, and learning styles, providing unique insights that help educators tailor interventions and supports.<\/p>\n
