Overview:
Middle school students who are newcomers or score between 1 – 3 on the ACCESS assessment should be provided with English language development support in a “collaborative pull-out” class. The core material for students who score 1-1.9 is Inside A (2009) and the core material for students who score 2 – 2.9 is Inside B (2009). All thematic units integrate the four language domains (reading, writing, speaking, and listening). Students learn language in context in thematic units which include authentic literature, information text, vocabulary development and spiraled skill and grammar instruction. Each unit includes a writing project.
