Quality Teaching for English Learners (QTEL) SY 2020-2021

Quality Teaching for English Learners (QTEL) is a sociocultural and sociolinguistic principled approach to language and disciplinary content learning. The instructional approach provides students with high challenge learning opportunities with high supports. Units plans include 3 components: Preparing the Learner, Interacting with Texts / Concepts / Content, and Extending Understandings. Teachers will collaborate in a year-long professional development process to learn and share how to plan and prepare instruction grounded in “high supports and high expectations” to enable students to explore disciplinary ideas and concepts while accelerating their language development.
