Bilingual/Dual Language Programs

Bilingual/Dual Language Programs

Bilingual/Dual Language Programs are offered at six elementary schools and are open to all students who want to learn and develop fluency in English and Spanish. Native English speakers share a classroom and learning experience with native Spanish speakers. Four subjects — Literacy, Math, Science and Social Studies– are taught in both English and Spanish. “Specials” – Art, Music, Physical Education, etc. – are taught in English.

The goal is for students to become bilingual and biliterate, meaning they can speak, read, write, and understand both languages. They also learn to interact with and appreciate peoples and cultures other than their own.

The Bilingual/Dual Language Program varies by school. Some schools have programs that cover multiple grade levels while others do not.
