Superintendent Tony B. Watlington, Sr., Ed.D., celebrated his birthday and Flag Day in the heart of American History. Watlington, a lover of history, toured the Betsy Ross House, the place where she made the first American Flag. He joined in the flag raising ceremony. The new citizens participating in the Naturalization/Oath of Citizenship ceremony are from Bolivia, Canada, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Haiti, India, Liberia, Nepal and Sierra Leone. Watlington welcomed the citizens saying, “President Lyndon Johnson said that ‘education is the key that can unlock the door to the Great Society, a place where all children can enrich their minds and enlarge their talents’. We welcome your children to attend the School District of Philadelphia, where they may enrich their minds and enlarge their talents.”
