Early intervention with targeted, evidence-based or best practice behavioral strategies is key to reducing behavior concerns, minimizing suspensions and increasing learning and achievement. It is also a vital component of minimizing over-identification of students for special education or mental health diagnoses and referrals.
The School District of Philadelphia Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) is a framework for identifying, preventing, addressing and monitoring evidence-based interventions. The school counselor takes the lead when it come to guiding the leadership team to formulate behavioral intervention strategies. The Office of Prevention & Intervention provides the counselor and the leadership team with training, coaching, support and consultation as needed to ensure that the interventions are implemented with fidelity and that progress is being monitored.
