PSTV has created a multimedia space where students can learn about a multitude of media opportunities that are available to them. Here you will learn about film festivals, educational programs available from industry partners, workshops, internships and much more.

Do you want to learn what it’s like behind the scenes at one of the nation’s most respected news stations, KYW Newsradio 1060? It’s FREE to sign up for their KYW Newstudies program where students can learn about news writing, journalism, editing & interviewing from the station’s award-winning staff members. Students will learn how to research, write and record news stories about their school and community and those reports will air on KYW Newsradio and/or be featured on their website.
Class sessions are Saturday, October 12th, 19th, 26th and November 9th from 9:00 AM to Noon. Students will record their projects on Saturday, November 16th.

The Via Lux (“street light”) Film Fest premiere short films representing the work of hundreds of young filmmakers ages 10-21 from Big Picture Alliance’s school, workforce, and summer film programs across Philadelphia. The Art of Mobile Journalism – Every Wednesday beginning 10/16 -12/11
In this 8 week course, you will learn best practices of electronic newsgathering also known as ENG. We will discuss shooting video, audio, lighting, scriptwriting, and editing for storytelling through video. We will also talk about building out your personal network via social media. Each student will produce a 1.5-2.5min story that they will present at our last session.
The goal of the course is to teach participants how to create solid video-driven stories that can run on any media format. * NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. Register today! ** This program is an 8-week workshop hosted every Wednesday beginning 10/16 -12/11
PSTV Logic Pro Workshop – (Every Monday for 6 weeks starting 10/14-11/25) If you are interested in how to record and mix music using Logic Pro, this workshop is for you. This basic workshop will familiarize you with the use of our Xpress studio along with and use of Logic Pro software. You will learn the Mixer, layout, Understanding Tempo and Key for Creating Loops, Software Instruments, MIDI, Recording Audio, VST Plugins, Mastering and Exporting Projects. This workshop is comprised of four sessions that must be attended in order to receive a PSTV certification. Photography Workshop –Every Tuesday 10/15-11/19 – Through a detailed analysis of basic and advanced camera functions, Intro to Photography provides students the opportunity to develop their artistic eye and explore the role of the camera in photojournalism and visual narrative. Literary elements of theme, tone, and the story will be synthesized with essential knowledge of visual design such as depth of field, aperture, and composition in order to guide students through the creation of photography portfolios and photo essays. The Urban Technology Project is now recruiting for our 2018-19 Pre-Apprentice Digital Service Fellows cohort. Students ages of 18-24 that is interested in a career in technology. The AmeriCorps Digital Service Fellows Pre-Apprenticeship program offers young adults the opportunity to learn technology support while serving Philadelphia schools by providing STEM and Computer Science mentoring activities to students. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.Pre-Apprentice Digital Service Fellows provide technology services to schools across the district while learning new tech skills, professionalism skills, earning a living stipend, gaining I.T. industry certifications, and more!
