AILEY AT THE ACADEMY, NOW AT HOME<\/strong>: Ailvin Ailey American Dance Theater\u00a0continues to offer some of its best know works for streaming, changing weekly.\u00a0 This week the company is offering the stunning dance,\u00a0Lazarus, created by Philly\u2019s own\u00a0Rennie Harris, acclaimed hip-hop choreographer and Ailey\u2019s first Artist in Residence. The work was a highlight of the company\u2019s last visit to Philadelphia at the Academy of Music in March 2019.\u00a0\u00a0Lazarus\u00a0will be available to screen beginning at 7 pm today, Thursday on\u00a0Ailey\u2019s All Access page<\/a>,<\/p>\n

GOD I HOPE THEY GET IT<\/strong>: New York\u2019s\u00a0Public Theater\u00a0is the birthplace of many of the landmark musicals that have gone on to legendary status on Broadway and beyond. The Public recently released a video from April 15, 2015 of the original cast of\u00a0Hamilton\u00a0paying tribute to the 40th\u00a0anniversary of the first performance of\u00a0A Chorus Line, while\u00a0Hamilton\u00a0was still performing at the same venue in the Public Theater\u2019s downtown home where\u00a0A Chorus Line\u00a0started on April 15, 1975.\u00a0 Enjoy one renowned company honoring another (with some special guests) by\u00a0clicking here.<\/a><\/p>\n

FREE CULTURE<\/strong>: The website\u00a0Open Culture\u00a0offers a huge collection of free music, films and classes for anyone to access, at a time when it seems like many of us and people that we know may have time on their hands.\u00a0 You can take a course on Ancient Rome, listen to Toni Morrison\u2019s Nobel Prize lecture, watch the classic comedy\u00a0His Girl Friday\u00a0with Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell, along with literally thousands of other options that will not increase your student loan or any other debt.\u00a0\u00a0Visit the site here.<\/a>
\nThe\u00a0Globe\u00a0has also teamed up with the BBC as part of BBC Art\u2019s Culture in Quarantine project. Emma Rice’s\u00a0A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream\u00a0<\/a>(2016) starring Ncuti Gatwa, and Jeremy Herrin’s\u00a0The Tempest<\/a>\u00a0(2013) with Roger Allam as Prospero and Colin Morgan as Ariel, will be hosted on BBC iPlayer for three months from today.<\/p>\n

\nDisney Theatrical Productions<\/a>\u00a0is offering free downloadable activities\u2014pinned to beloved shows such as\u00a0The Lion King, Frozen, Mary Poppins,\u00a0and\u00a0Aladdin\u2014for parents, students, and educators. Activities, which can be downloaded as PDFs, include\u00a0The Lion King-inspired costume mask-making (ages 6\u201311)<\/strong> and a script-writing exercise for ages 11\u201314, as well as an\u00a0Aladdin-inspired art and design exercise, in which students can create a mood board, storyboard and design their own set model. \nColt Coeur is opening up its 10th annual free Education Initiative, (lovingly referred to by participants as “theatre camp”), to students ages 9-15<\/strong> all over the world. With a roster of teaching artists that includes\u00a0Dear Evan Hansen\u00a0<\/a>writer Steven Levenson, the program offers students a chance to conceive and create original short plays with the help of professional actors, playwrights, directors, and designers. LINCOLN CENTER AT HOME<\/strong><\/em>
\nSchools may be temporarily closed, but Lincoln Center Pop-Up Classroom is open. An online live stream starting at 2 PM ET each school day (via Facebook), the virtual classroom is part of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts’ newly launched Lincoln Center at Home\u2014an initiative aimed at helping educators and parents navigate the current pandemic and its restrictions. Classroom topics include creating expressive puppets from simple at-home objects; writing a song and singing it; making woven works of art with recycled material like junk mail and cardboard boxes; and dance lessons to get everyone up and moving. Lincoln Center at Home also features Concerts For Kids, family-friendly musical offerings in short video format from artists such as Music from the Sole, Sonia De Los Santos, Zeshan B, and Elena Moon Park. \nThe Broadway Green Alliance has launched a series of virtual workshops aimed at harnessing creative ways to remain connected to each other and the earth. ALVIN AILEY’S ONLINE DANCE PROGRAMMING AND OTHERS<\/strong><\/em>
\nWith the\u00a0launch of Ailey All Access, a new online streaming series<\/a>, the organization is set to move its Ailey Arts In Education & Community Programs online. In the style of the AileyDance Kids school residency program, the virtual classroom will feature recorded video dance classes led by Ailey Teaching Artists and Musicians, for grades Pre-K through 12<\/strong>. Styles offered include West African, Hip-Hop, Jazz, and Modern.<\/p>\n
