ELS coaches support K-3 students by promoting research-based literacy teaching practices; improving teacher content knowledge, classroom environments, and classroom structure; and providing content-focused coaching and resources. Implementation of this initiative began in a cohort model: 40 schools received a full-time ELS in 2015-16, 53 schools received an ELS in 2016-17, and the remaining 56 schools received an ELS in 2017-18. In summer 2018, ORE surveyed the principals of these schools about their experiences with ELS coaches. This brief focuses on two guiding questions:

What percentage of schools experienced ELS coach turnover since 2015-16?

To what extent do principals view ELS coach turnover as a challenge to the success of the early literacy initiative?

Use the button to download the 4-page brief.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_btn title=”CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE BRIEF” style=”gradient-custom” gradient_custom_color_1=”#0b315b” gradient_custom_color_2=”#398635″ align=”center” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.philasd.org%2Fresearch%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F90%2F2019%2F01%2FPrincipal-Perceptions-of-ELS-Turnover-Research-Brief-January-2019.pdf|||”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Results from a 2018 principal survey about their experiences with Early Literacy Specialist coaches.

[130

post-4155","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-literacy
["GET
