Student Achievement and Support

Board Committees are an opportunity for Board Members to engage in public dialogue and establish, review, analyze, and discuss policy recommendations prior to consideration by the full Board.

Mission & Purpose

As a committee to the Board of Education, the Student Achievement and Support Committee shall provide governance oversight of the District’s educational and academic programs, student achievement, performance, progress and student support services.

  1. Meets monthly during the school year;

  2. Receives updates on outcomes data as related to the District’s progress on its Anchor Goals and District-wide student achievement data;

  3. Discusses and recommends investments that support schools and classrooms;

  4. Reviews changes to state and federal legislation as they impact the District’s educational programming (ESSA, Perkins, Title I, etc.); and

  5. Provides a forum for informing the Board and community (through staff presentations and discussion) about District programs and practices and charter school authorizing.

Public participation will occur for a specific amount of time on the agenda after presentations. Speakers will be registered by topic, with a limit of (4) four speakers per topic. Student speakers will be prioritized on the agenda. Each participant will have 3 minutes to speak. Additional public participants will be allowed if time permits. Written comments may be submitted to the committee at any time in advance of the start of the meeting by email at schoolboardcommittees@philasd.org. Comment cards will also be available at each meeting for those who which to submit written comments.
