{"id":4213,"date":"2019-03-07T17:26:25","date_gmt":"2019-03-07T22:26:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.philasd.org\/schoolboard\/?p=4213"},"modified":"2019-09-04T12:01:36","modified_gmt":"2019-09-04T16:01:36","slug":"weve-selected-13-members-for-our-parent-community-advisory-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.philasd.org\/schoolboard\/2019\/03\/07\/weve-selected-13-members-for-our-parent-community-advisory-council\/","title":{"rendered":"We&#8217;ve selected 13 members for our Parent &amp; Community Advisory Council!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As mandated in the Philadelphia Home Rule Charter:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe Board of Education shall convene at least twice-yearly a Parent and Community Advisory Council comprised of stakeholders from across the City to consult on issues pertaining to educational policy and family and community engagement in schools.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Advisory Council will provide input and guidance to the Board on advancing the Board\u2019s priorities by communicating the thoughts and points of view of Philadelphia public school parents and community members.<\/p>\n<p>Council members are expected to identify at least 5 meetings in their community to attend over the course of the 2019-2020 school year. They will gather feedback from parents, caregivers and community members, specific to the\u00a0Board\u2019s Priorities: Student Achievement, Transparency and Accessibility, One System of Quality Schools and Financial Stability.<\/p>\n<p>The Advisory Council is made up of 13 individuals who will serve a full one year term for the duration of the following school year from when they are appointed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful to have 13 individuals from a diverse set of schools and neighborhoods throughout the city,\u201d said Board member Mallory Fix Lopez. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to start working with them, and we are looking forward to the insight and support that they will provide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about the Council members below.<\/p>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse;width: 100%\" border=\"1\">\n<tbody>\n<tr style=\"height: 24px\">\n<td style=\"width: 33.3333%;height: 24px;text-align: center\">\n<p><strong>Catherine Blunt<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Neighborhood:<\/strong> West Philly\/Strawberry Mansion<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 33.3333%;height: 24px;text-align: center\">\n<p><strong>Tonayia Coffer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Neighborhood:<\/strong> Northeast<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I have a deep desire to amplify the parent voice and help improve transparency across the district.&#8221;<\/em><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 33.3333%;height: 24px;text-align: center\">\n<p><strong>Shereda Cromwell<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Neighborhood:<\/strong> North Philly<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I look forward to serving on the Parent &amp; Community Advisory Council. I will be an advocate for all children in Philadelphia. Mainly trying to be a voice for the voiceless. Children that come from low-income neighborhoods and children with special needs. When one child succeeds, it is a win for ALL children! I\u2019m so proud to be able to lead by example and make sure the people in my community are a part of the conversation when it comes to educating all our children.&#8221;<\/em><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 33.3333%;height: 24px;text-align: center\">\n<p><strong>Marisa Shaaban<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Neighborhood:<\/strong> Center City<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I look forward to listening to and learning from parents and caregivers in every part of the District. I hope to be a voice for them and a champion for public education on every level, including highlighting the wonderful successes happening in our schools.
