The Board of Education has selected 13 Philadelphians for its first Parent and Community Advisory Council. Members of the Council represent a diverse group of stakeholders including community members, faith-based leaders, and former educators. The Council will serve as an additional link between the Board of Education and Philadelphia communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are grateful to have 13 individuals from a diverse set of schools and neighborhoods throughout the city,\u201d said Board member Mallory Fix Lopez. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to start working with them, and we are looking forward to the insight and support that they will provide.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Parent and Community Advisory Council is a mandate in the Philadelphia Home Rule Charter, which requires the Board of Education to meet with the Council at least twice yearly.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis Council will act as our ears on the ground,\u201d said Board member Julia Danzy. \u201cWe need them to gather constituent feedback that is specifically related to our four Board priorities, and we will use that feedback to inform our decision and policy making.\u201d<\/p>\n
Members of the Advisory Council will begin work in September 2019, and will serve a full one-year term for the duration of the 2019-2020 school year.<\/p>\n
Members of the Parent & Community Advisory Council include: Catherine Blunt, Tonayia Coffer, Shereda Cromwell, Martiza Guridy, Amina Malik, Ginny McGill, Tony Rocco, Marisa Shaaban, Joellene Sicinski, Ty Thomas, Cecelia Thompson, Bishop Ethan Thorton and Reverend Chandra Williams.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
