School District of Philadelphia Board of Education Member Maria McColgan, M.D., has announced that she will resign from the Board, effective May 6, 2022. Dr. McColgan was appointed to the Board in 2018 and currently serves as Chair of the Policy Committee.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has truly been an honor to serve the city of Philadelphia, the School District, and most importantly the students and teachers,\u201d Dr. McColgan said. \u201cOver the past four years, we have worked hard to focus on improving student achievement. While much work remains to\u00a0 be done, I feel optimistic about the direction that we are heading.\u201d<\/p>\n
The City\u2019s Educational Nominating Panel, convened April 4, 2022,\u00a0 will now consider applicants to fill two vacancies on the Board of Education.\u00a0 More information on this process is available here.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to thank Dr. McColgan for her service on the Board of Education,\u201d said Mayor Jim Kenney. \u201cDr. McColgan was one of my first appointees to the Board and had an important role in returning our city schools to local control.
