Certain services are available to students identified as eligible for special education who are unilaterally placed by their parents in private schools through a federal requirement called Equitable Participation (EP). In Pennsylvania, the Intermediate Units (IUs) are the agencies responsible for the implementation of the federal requirement for EP. The Philadelphia County IU will share specialized knowledge and skills with the Non-Public School teachers, parents, administrators, and other professionals will act as liaison between the Non-Public Schools and the IU, and will to provide consultation with school staff to determine what services, if any, will be provided.
