The following conditions or situations are examples of reasonable causes for absence from school.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Obtaining professional health care or therapy service<\/li>\n<li>Quarantine<\/li>\n<li>Recovery from accident<\/li>\n<li>Required court appearance<\/li>\n<li>Death in family<\/li>\n<li>Educational, project or performance (i.e. music\/dance\/stage) related trip\/tour under specific conditions<\/li>\n<li>College tours, trade school tours, career and technical training program tours, community college tours, or tours of other non-District schools, with prior approval.<\/li>\n<li>Observance of a religious holiday observed by a bona fide religious group, upon prior written request from the person in parental relation.<\/li>\n<li>Family Emergency (An unexpected, serious event that is outside of the control of the student\u2019s family).<\/li>\n<li>Other urgent reasons that may reasonably cause a student\u2019s absence, as well as circumstances related to homelessness and foster care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Some of these events have their own conditions that need to be met in order for the absence to be excused.<\/p>\n<p>You can also learn more in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.philasd.org\/schoolboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/892\/2020\/06\/204_Attendance_Policy-6.25.20.pdf\">District\u2019s 204 Attendance Policy<\/a>.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Excused Absence Procedure &amp; Written Note*&#8221; custom_font_container=&#8221;tag:h2|font_size:16px|text_align:left|color:%2322779f|line_height:18px&#8221; custom_google_fonts=&#8221;font_family:Roboto%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C500%2C500italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal&#8221; use_custom_heading=&#8221;true&#8221;]\n<ul>\n<li>The District\u2019s attendance policy requires written excuse notes explaining the absence.\n<ul>\n<li>Contact the child&#8217;s school to verify ways excuse notes may be submitted.<\/li>\n<li>Excuse notes must be given to the school within <strong><em>three (3) days <\/em><\/strong>upon the student\u2019s return to school.
