NEHS School Year 2023-2024

Viking Family,

We are excited to have our NEHS Vikings ready for another school year!

In preparation for your student’s return, we’d like to share some information to hopefully address some of your questions and concerns. In order to help out new students acclimate to the campus, we will be holding student orientations for incoming 9th Grade Academy and ALP students on August 31st, 2023.  The new Magnet 9th grade students will have orientation on Sept 1st, 2023.

We will be sending out more information about these orientations over the next few days. We will also be holding concurrent parent meetings, so that we can address any concerns you might have. Please read through the following information:

Student Arrival – All female students will enter through the Main Entrance. All male students will enter either through the Cafeteria Entrance (located on Cottman Ave), or the Summerdale Entrance (located on Summerdale Ave).  All 9th grade boys will enter off of Glendale Ave, by the SPARC wing.  Students are expected to be in full uniform on the first day of school. Entry begins at 7:00 AM each school day, and school starts promptly at 7:42 AM each morning.

Breakfast – Students will be offered a grab and go breakfast after they pass through the entry scans, each day, these are provided free of charge to all students.

School Uniforms – All students are required to wear the NEHS school uniform, which consists of a white button down shirt and tan/khaki bottoms, both of which must be appropriate for school. Students are required to wear a NEHS tie. All new students will be provided a school tie, lanyard, and school ID during the first week of school. Ties for new students are being provided at no cost, however, students will be responsible for the cost of a replacement school tie should it be misplaced ($7.00).  Please be reminded that hoodies, ski masks, and non-religious head coverings are not permitted in the building.

Student IDs – School IDs will be printed and distributed to new students during orientation, and for all other students requiring a new ID, they will be distributed during the first weeks of school.

School Supplies – Teachers will provide a list during the first week of school for specific courses.

PE Uniforms – PE uniform shirts will be available for purchase during all student orientations. Students are required to change into the PE uniform for PE class. The PE department is asking that students wear sneakers to school so that they can participate in class.

Lunch – Students will be provided lunches in the cafeteria or the auditorium; meals are provided free of charge for all students.

TransPasses – All Philadelphia students will be allowed to ride SEPTA for free in the morning on Tuesday, Sept 5th, 2023. SEPTA TransPasses will be provided to Small Learning Community leaders for distribution during the advisory period on the first day of school if they don’t already have one from a prior year at Northeast.  Students must live at least 1.5 miles away from school based on school district calculations in order to qualify for a TransPass.

Transitions – All student movement will be monitored throughout the day. You will be allotted 4 minutes to safely transition between classes. It is expected that you move quickly and safely to your next class.

Sports –  Athletics start on August 14th for all FALL sports and sports physical forms can be found on the district and school website.

Please check your email, social media, and the School District of Philadelphia website for updates.  If we can be of assistance, the main office will resume regular operations on Monday, August 14, please call 215-400-3200.

We are excited to welcome you back to school this year!
