Dear School District of Philadelphia Families,

Forecasters are predicting that Philadelphia will experience near blizzard conditions with total snow accumulation between 12 to 18 inches this weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch, which is in effect from 10:00 a.m. Sunday to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026. The storm could produce as much as 18 inches of snow, and a cold weather advisory is also in effect.

Based on the forecasted conditions due to the inclement weather, out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of our entire school community, including our valued staff members who commute from various counties across the region, on Monday, February 23, all School District of Philadelphia schools and Early Childhood Centers, as well as the Constance E. Clayton Education Center (Central Office) will operate virtually. All after-school activities, including all athletic programs and professional development sessions scheduled for Monday, are also canceled.

District leadership is closely monitoring weather conditions across our region, in accordance with the District’s Inclement Weather Protocol. We hope to be able to return to normal operations on Tuesday, February 24. Should there be any changes to this schedule, we will communicate through our standard channels.

In partnership,

Tony B. Watlington Sr., Ed.D.
Superintendent
The School District of Philadelphia
