From Haiti to High Achievement: Celebrating October Senior of the Month Edsenly Saint Juste

Just two years ago, Edsenly Saint Juste arrived in the United States from Haiti without knowing how to speak English. Today, the Olney High School senior is earning national recognition for his academic achievements and pursuing his dream of becoming a software or artificial intelligence engineer.

The School District of Philadelphia is proud to recognize Edsenly Saint Juste of Olney High School as our October 2026 Senior of the Month! At just 18 years old, Edsenly’s remarkable journey is one of resilience, perseverance, and extraordinary determination, demonstrating what is possible when hard work meets opportunity.

Edsenly moved to the United States from Haiti in 2024, seeking safety and new opportunities amid the instability in his home country. Arriving as a ninth-grade student, he faced the challenges of adjusting to a new culture, a new school system, and an unfamiliar language. “When I came to the U.S., I didn’t know anything in English,” he shared. Yet, rather than allowing those obstacles to define his experience, Edsenly embraced the challenge, dedicating himself to learning, growing, and building a brighter future.

In just two years, Edsenly has distinguished himself as an exceptional scholar with a passion for computer science and technology. He has excelled in advanced coursework, earned recognition among the top 20% of students nationally in a cloud computing dual-enrollment program, and successfully passed the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner examination. His accomplishments also include receiving the Path Forward Award for his work in game development at West Chester University’s iCamp Media Academy and earning a Certificate of Excellence for his coding skills through the Philadelphia Education Fund’s Scholars Advantage Program.

But Edsenly’s success extends far beyond his academic achievements. Described by his teachers as diligent, respectful, and always willing to lend a helping hand, he has become a valued member of the Olney High School community. Whether supporting classmates, assisting teachers, volunteering at school events, or helping distribute donations to families, Edsenly consistently demonstrates that leadership is as much about serving others as it is about personal achievement.

Despite learning English as his third language, Edsenly continues to challenge himself academically while pursuing opportunities to strengthen his technical skills. His determination, curiosity, and willingness to go above and beyond have earned the admiration of his teachers and peers, who recognize both his remarkable potential and his commitment to excellence.

Looking ahead, Edsenly plans to attend college and study computer science, with aspirations of becoming a software engineer or artificial intelligence engineer. When asked what success means to him, his answer reflected not only his personal ambitions but also the importance of family, happiness, and meaningful relationships. For Edsenly, success means achieving financial stability, being happy, seeing his family happy, and surrounding himself with good friends.

As he prepares for graduation, Edsenly hopes to leave behind a legacy that extends beyond his academic accomplishments. Above all, he wants to be remembered as someone who was kind, respectful, and always ready to help others, especially his classmates.

His journey from Haiti to Philadelphia is a powerful reminder that our beginnings do not determine our destinations. In just two years, Edsenly has overcome significant barriers, embraced new opportunities, and established himself as a promising young leader with an extraordinary future ahead.

Please join us in congratulating Edsenly Saint Juste, our October Senior of the Month! His perseverance, compassion, and commitment to excellence embody the very best of Philadelphia’s students.

Congratulations, Edsenly! Your journey is an inspiration, and we cannot wait to see all that you accomplish next!
