The School District of Philadelphia is proud to recognize Mrs. Janel Moore-Almond as our Teacher of the Month for April 2025—a title that only begins to reflect the extraordinary heart, vision, and dedication she brings to her students, colleagues, and school community every single day.

At Carver Engineering & Science, Mrs. Moore-Almond is more than a teacher—she is a mentor, a motivator, a difference-maker, and a steady light for so many. Whether she’s leading academic initiatives, creating joyful and meaningful experiences for students, or empowering staff to grow in their practice, Mrs. Moore-Almond gives her all.

As Middle School Class Coordinator, she has redefined what school culture can be. Through intentional planning, heartfelt encouragement, and consistent celebration of student success, she’s helped cultivate a climate where 98.5% of middle school students are on track, and over 80% have reached honor roll status. Her leadership contributed to the highest attendance rates (95%) in the school for two straight quarters—proof that when students feel seen, valued, and inspired, they show up.

But Mrs. Moore-Almond’s impact doesn’t stop there. As an MTSS Intervention Teacher, she meets students where they are—offering personalized support, building their confidence, and helping them believe in their own potential. As PLC Lead Teacher, she models excellence in instruction, leads with compassion, and encourages educators to grow together with purpose and equity at the center. Her voice is trusted, her leadership respected.

Her commitment to student voice and civic responsibility shines in her work as Student Voter Champion—where she has led efforts to register 20 seniors to vote and continues to educate and empower as students come of age. As Black Student Union sponsor, she has grown the group to over 50 students and created meaningful opportunities for identity, celebration, and leadership—including student-led Black History Month events and an innovative entrepreneur showcase.

And perhaps one of the most powerful examples of her heart for students is her work as Lead Facilitator of the SPEAK UP Program. Training 45 student leaders and 7 staff members, she helped create a space where more than 125 students gathered to speak their truth and feel heard—many for the first time. The impact of that moment will echo for years to come.

Academically, her influence is just as strong. With her support, Carver HSES saw remarkable growth from Fall to Winter, with students outperforming national averages—64% SGP in reading and 68% in math—a testament to the deep investment she’s made in both students and instructional practices.

Mrs. Moore-Almond’s leadership is consistent, heartfelt, and rooted in love. She leads by example, uplifts those around her, and pours herself into the work that matters most: developing young minds and helping them see all that they can become.

Congratulations, Mrs. Moore-Almond. You are so worthy of this honor, and we are deeply grateful for the light, excellence, and love you bring to Carver and the entire School District of Philadelphia!
