Dear School District of Philadelphia Families,
As you know, the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remains our top priority. School District and City of Philadelphia officials have been working around the clock to clear snow and ice from roads and walkways to support a safe return to in-person learning.
As a result of this collaborative effort, all school programs and activities will return to normal, in-person operation starting tomorrow, January 29, 2026. Students who arrive late due to weather-related challenges will not be marked late, or will be excused if absent, upon receipt of a note from a parent or guardian. Staff who arrive late will be marked with an excused lateness. I encourage students, families, and staff to travel safely and with an abundance of caution tomorrow.
All yellow bus services will proceed as usual, although there may be delays on individual routes. Parents and guardians should plan for possible delays with the District’s yellow bus services and on Septa’s subway, trolley and bus routes. If you anticipate delays or have questions or concerns, please reach out to your child’s principal or school.
All athletic events and afterschool activities will proceed as scheduled starting tomorrow. And the District’s Central Office will be open during normal business hours.
As a reminder, tomorrow and Friday will be half days, as schools will host report card conferences.
Additionally, the school selection deadline has been extended from Wednesday, January 28 at 5:00pm to Friday, January 30 at 5:00pm to allow families increased time to confer with school guidance counselors. Additional information will be shared with applicants and their families.
We will provide further weather-related updates as needed. Otherwise, we look forward to welcoming all students and staff back to schools and offices tomorrow, to continue accelerating Philly.
In partnership,
Tony B. Watlington Sr., Ed.D.
Superintendent
The School District of Philadelphia
