The School District of Philadelphia is proud to recognize Corinne Gustafson of Central High School as a Senior of the Month. This honor reflects her exceptional academic achievement, dynamic leadership, and deep commitment to serving others.

Corinne is the definition of a scholar-leader. While many students excel in one area, she has distinguished herself across three critical pillars of the high school experience: academic excellence, campus leadership, and community service. As a student in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, she has embraced one of the most rigorous academic pathways available. Maintaining top-tier performance within this demanding curriculum requires not only intelligence but also discipline, resilience, and advanced time-management skills that position her for long-term success.

Beyond her academic accomplishments, Corinne’s leadership is both versatile and impactful. As Co-President of Model United Nations, she leads her peers through complex discussions that require diplomacy, critical thinking, and global awareness. At the same time, her roles as music editor for the Yearbook and managing editor of the Centralizer newspaper demonstrate a high level of trust and responsibility. In these positions, she is not only contributing content, but shaping the narrative of her school community. She plays a key role in documenting history, elevating student voice, and guiding collaborative teams toward a shared vision.

What truly sets Corinne apart is her unwavering dedication to others. Whether she is welcoming new students through orientation, supporting families at Gift of Life Howie’s House, or empowering young writers through Mighty Writers, she consistently uses her time and talents to uplift those around her. Her service reflects a genuine commitment to community and a clear understanding that leadership is rooted in impact.

Through her academic and extracurricular experiences, Corinne has developed a highly transferable and future-ready skill set. The IB program has equipped her with college-level research, writing, and analytical skills, while her editorial leadership has strengthened her abilities in project management, communication, and ethical storytelling. Her work in Model United Nations has further refined her public speaking, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities, preparing her to navigate complex systems with confidence and clarity.

Corinne’s future success is not based on potential alone, but on consistent and proven performance. She has demonstrated the ability to manage an exceptionally demanding schedule with focus and excellence, thriving in an environment that challenges even the most disciplined students. She does not simply participate in opportunities, she leads them, bringing vision, structure, and follow-through to everything she undertakes.

Equally important is her strong sense of purpose. Through her volunteer work and leadership roles, Corinne has shown that her ambitions extend beyond personal achievement. She understands the importance of contributing to something greater than herself, and this balance of intellect and empathy makes her an invaluable presence in any academic or professional setting.

Corinne Gustafson embodies the very best of the School District of Philadelphia. Her combination of academic rigor, leadership, and compassion sets a powerful example for her peers and leaves a lasting impact on her school community. We proudly celebrate her as a Senior of the Month and look forward to all she will accomplish in the years ahead.

We asked Corinne our favorite list of questions:

Why do you think you were nominated as Senior of the Month?

I think this could have been because throughout high school, I have sought out opportunities to expand my leadership abilities and I have done my best to grow connections with teachers and students in my school’s community.

What is one thing you’d like to share about yourself that most people don’t know about you?

Outside of school, I enjoy biking, baking, photography, and trying to learn new songs on the piano!

How did you choose your high school? What do you enjoy most when you are not at school?

I chose to attend Central because I knew that there were so many opportunities, like the many clubs. I also thought the presence of performing arts and showcases along with the academic focus would make the school a more fun and interesting place to be.  When I am not at school, I really enjoy spending time with my friends and family and doing activities like going on walks or playing card games.

What is the best thing about attending school at Central High School?

I think the best thing about attending Central is that there are so many opportunities to meet new people and make new connections, whether it be through a club, an interesting class, or an ensemble.

What is one thing that the School District could do to improve its service to students?

I think more opportunities to form connections with students that attend different schools across the district could be really unique and rewarding experiences, as students would be able to be exposed to new perspectives.

Corinne, we are so excited for you – best of luck in the college and career of your dreams!
