On October 30, 2018, the state’s Charter School Appeal Board (CAB) upheld the District’s recommendation to revoke Khepera Charter School’s charter. It is the understanding of our office that Khepera Charter School will close at the end of the school year.  If you are interested in seeking a District school placement, please contact the Office of Student Enrollment and Placement at 215-400-4290.  If you have other questions, please reach out directly to the school.

“Khepera Charter School’s mission is to create exceptional learners and leaders by using culturally responsive methodologies to close the academic achievement gap attributed to race, gender and economic class. In keeping with this mission Khepera utilizes the culture and history of its students to inspire a commitment to excellence in character, in scholarship, and in citizenship. Khepera Charter School stresses excellence in scholarship and gives particular attention to building capacities in the critical literacies of language arts, numeracy, science, and technology. Excellence in character is cultivated through the use of traditional African and African American value systems. Excellence in citizenship is developed through service to family, community, the environment, and the world.”

Culturally Relevant and Human Rights Curriculum
Our comprehensive and holistic curriculum includes rigorous standards in English, Global Studies, Mathematics, and Science.

Cultural and Visual Arts
We provide a nurturing environment for artistic expression that inspires knowledge of self, protection of community, and love for humanity.

Music Education
We offer a curriculum where students in grades K-8 experience the power of music, how music shapes the social, cultural, and political aspects of society, and the role of the musician in shaping human thought.

Character Education
We provide a Rites of Passage curriculum to students in grades 5-8.This is taught using the principles of Ma’at- Truth, Justice, Reciprocity, Harmony, Balance, and Order. These virtues help to build character and enhance students’ conduct and citizenship.

    Developed annually by the Charter Schools Office (CSO) for all Philadelphia brick-and-mortar charter schools (except those up for renewal), these reports provide information on three main areas of charter school performance: academic success, organizational compliance and viability, and financial health and sustainability.

    Notices of Deficiency are issued to schools regarding significant instances of non-compliance or poor performance that may affect student well-being or access. Notices of Deficiency clarify actions schools must take in order to resolve the deficiency.

    Financial audits are produced annually by independent auditors for all charter schools in Pennsylvania. All charter schools are required to have an independent financial audit completed every year.
