Dear School District of Philadelphia community,
At the School District, we are committed to caring for the mental and physical well-being of our students. We believe that if students are mentally and physically healthy, they will be better prepared for success in the classroom. That is why we are excited to publicly announce our partnership with Rallee and the Philadelphia Flyers.
Rallee is a move-to-learn app designed for K-8 students that reimagines brain breaks to energize the body and mind for learning. Research shows that effective brain breaks lead to better behavior and improved focus, which in turn results in improved attendance and accelerated academic achievement. This school year, we piloted the Rallee app in 22 schools with approximately 10,000 K-8 students. For the 2026-2027 school year, we are aiming to launch Rallee in half of all K-8 classrooms. Our goal is to then expand district-wide at the beginning of the 2027-2028 school year.
Upon the full rollout of the application, Rallee activities will be accessible both at school and at home. Starting this fall, students, parents, and caregivers at the pilot schools can use the personalized, digital, age-appropriate well-being resources by accessing the app at home on an iPad and signing in with the student’s school-appointed login. At school, Rallee is the in-classroom “brain boost” that students need for enhanced focus and better mental health in less than 5 minutes.
The Rallee app and resources are free to use for students and families through a sponsorship from the Philadelphia Flyers. Through the partnership, students will be able to unlock access to Flyers World– an immersive experience within the Rallee app with a custom Flyers-themed environment and prizes tied to Flyers hockey and Gritty the mascot. The Flyers are also generously providing incentives for students to engage with Rallee through competitions, giveaways, and school-based programming. Additionally, in partnership with Bank of America, the Flyers are donating over $70k worth of hockey equipment to District schools, to support learning about hockey in gym classes and the development of intramural hockey programs in Philadelphia public schools.
While all schools will not have the Rallee app until the 2027-2028 school year, we want to provide the opportunity for everyone to learn more about it as soon as possible. Starting this summer during the School District’s Back-to-School Campaign and Bus Tour, and into the fall through Parent & Family University, families and students will be able to engage with Rallee in person to learn more about the Rallee app, and the services that are offered. Please stay tuned for more information about these engagement opportunities. In the meantime, you can review this Parent FAQ, which can also be found on the District’s mental health resources website.
The mental health of our students remains a top priority. We hope that Rallee will be a helpful resource for young people, and support them in preparing to imagine and realize any future they desire!
In partnership,
Tony B. Watlington Sr., Ed.D.
