At Frankford High School, Stephan Randolph has become a powerful example of resilience, determination, and hope—a young man who refused to let hardship define his future.

Stephan’s story is one of perseverance through grief, quiet strength, and unwavering belief in brighter days ahead. After losing his mother, he could have easily allowed pain and uncertainty to derail his path. Instead, he chose to move forward with purpose, guided by a simple but powerful motto: “Never give up because your blessing could be just around the corner.”

That mindset has shaped every part of his journey.

After transferring from Esperanza Cyber School during his senior year, Stephan entered Frankford High School with remarkable maturity, focus, and determination. Transitioning schools during such a pivotal year can be difficult for any student, but Stephan immediately became a valued member of the Frankford community through his quiet leadership, strong work ethic, and genuine heart for others.

A straight-A student, Stephan has consistently demonstrated discipline, independence, and reliability. Teachers and peers alike describe him as someone who leads not through attention or recognition, but through character and consistency.

One particularly moving moment came during a classroom lesson celebrating Día de los Muertos. Stephan brought his mother’s ashes to include in the classroom ofrenda (altar), honoring her memory with deep love and cultural pride. It was a powerful reflection of the bond he continues to carry with his mother and the strength he has found in keeping her spirit close while pursuing his dreams.

Beyond academics, Stephan has immersed himself in the Frankford community. He is a member of the school’s Lacrosse team and the Students Run Philly Style program, where he has built endurance, teamwork, and resilience both physically and mentally. He also volunteers regularly at Frankford’s food pantry, consistently giving back to classmates and families in need despite the challenges he has faced himself.

As a Culinary Arts student, Stephan has shown extraordinary vision for his future. While many students view Career and Technical Education as a direct path into the workforce, Stephan saw it as the beginning of something greater. Determined to elevate his skills and pursue professional mastery, he earned acceptance into the prestigious Culinary Arts Program at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

For Stephan, college once felt out of reach. Today, he stands as a proud college-bound senior with a clear career path and a future full of possibility.

As the middle child of seven siblings and a first-generation college student, Stephan understands the weight of responsibility. Yet he is courageously choosing to “break the cycle” by pursuing higher education and building a long-term career instead of immediately entering the workforce to help support his household. That decision reflects not only ambition, but vision, sacrifice, and hope for generations to come.

Stephan Randolph is proof that resilience can create transformation, that grief can coexist with purpose, and that blessings truly can be waiting just around the corner.

Congratulations to Stephan Randolph of Frankford High School, the School District of Philadelphia’s Senior of the Month. His journey is inspiring, his future is bright, and his story is only just beginning.

The School District of Philadelphia proudly celebrates Stephan as a Senior of the Month and looks forward to all he will accomplish in the years ahead.

We asked Stephan our favorite list of questions:

Why do you think you were nominated as Senior of the Month?

I think I was nominated for Senior of the Month for my consistent work ethic and the kindness and understanding I show to my peers and teachers alike.

You were nominated by (Ms. Joanna George). Explain your relationship. Explain their role in your experience at your school.

My teacher, Senora George, and I have a mother-son relationship. She’s always going out of her way to help me and check up on me. She’s also quick to pick up on when I’m feeling unsure of anything or when I’m just not myself in general. On A days, I look forward to her class the most since it sorta feels like home with my best friend and nice teacher there.

What is one thing you’d like to share about yourself that most people don’t know about you?

Other than my very passionate dream of being a chef, I also build things with my father. Like fences, cement sidewalks, roofs, and just anything home-related.

How did you choose your high school? What do you enjoy most when you are not at school?

I chose Frankford really out of a split decision when I realized I didn’t meet the requirements to graduate from my prior school so my expectations weren’t high. But getting here made me wish I could do high school all over again just to be here. When I’m outside of school, I enjoy practicing lacrosse (GO PIONEERS), cooking with my family, taking care of my dogs, talking with my friends, and gaming.

What is the best thing about attending school at Frankford?

The best thing for me about attending FrankFord is definitely my friends and staff, because without them, I wouldn’t want to do anything at all. They truly motivate more than any of them can imagine and thank them for being who they are and just being there for me when I need or want them.

What is one thing that the School District could do to improve its service to students?

One thing the school district could do to improve its service to the students is to raise the staff and teachers’ salaries so they can have the power to provide and care for all the students that they can.

Stephan, we are so excited for you – best of luck in the college and career of your dreams!
