Dear School District of Philadelphia Families,
The Philadelphia region is experiencing another week of higher than normal temperatures. And while the District has made significant progress toward ensuring our schools are adequately cooled in order to provide safe and comfortable learning environments, there are still a number of schools with inadequate cooling systems. Here’s what you need to know:
Schools Transitioning to Virtual Learning
The 52 schools listed below will operate on a virtual learning schedule on Friday, June 5.
- Early childhood programs located within these schools will also transition to virtual learning.
- Students will be sent home with their Chromebooks today to support virtual instruction.
After-School Activities
All in-person after-school activities scheduled for Friday at the schools transitioning to virtual are canceled.
Field Trips
Schools and students may still participate in scheduled field trips. We encourage students to:
- Wear lightweight clothing
- Bring a water bottle
- Stay hydrated throughout the day
Technology Support
If your child needs a District-issued Chromebook or Chromebook repair assistance, use the information available on the District’s Family Resources website.
Additional Family Support
We recognize that unexpected shifts to virtual learning can create challenges for families. Please visit phila.gov for information about food and meal distribution resources. Call 1-833-PHL-HOPE for free counseling and emotional support services for students and families.
Questions?
Please contact your child’s school through ClassDojo, Google Classroom, or the Parent & Family Portal.
While we know that in-person learning is the best environment for students, the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remains our top priority. Thank you for your flexibility and partnership. Please take care, stay cool, and stay safe.
Sincerely,
Oz Hill
Deputy Superintendent of Operations
The School District of Philadelphia
