From Saudi Arabia to Philadelphia: Celebrating October Senior of the Month Fatima Ali
For Northeast High School senior Fatima Ali, opportunity is more than a privilege. It’s a responsibility to make every moment count.
The School District of Philadelphia is proud to recognize Fatima Ali of Northeast High School as our October 2026 Senior of the Month! An outstanding scholar, dedicated student leader, and aspiring physician, Fatima’s journey is a powerful story of courage, gratitude, and determination.
Fatima spent much of her childhood in Saudi Arabia, where she attended school and built lasting friendships. But in 10th grade, she made a life-changing transition, moving to Philadelphia to pursue greater educational opportunities. Leaving behind the life she knew wasn’t easy. However, Fatima quickly discovered that her new school offered something special: a diverse and welcoming community where she could explore her interests, challenge herself academically, and discover new possibilities. “The change was kind of difficult, but it was worth it,” Fatima shared. “The academic opportunities here are amazing. So I’m very grateful for that change.”
At Northeast High School, Fatima embraced those opportunities wholeheartedly. She enrolled in challenging Advanced Placement courses, joined several student organizations, and discovered a passion for community service. Her involvement began with a simple observation. While sitting in the school cafeteria, she noticed students volunteering and immediately wanted to be part of something that made a difference. That curiosity eventually led her to join the Key Club, where she now serves as president. Today, Fatima is also involved in the National Honor Society, Beta Club, and Crocheting Club. Her previous activities include girls’ soccer, HOSA, and leadership responsibilities with the school’s Anatomy and Physiology Club. Through the AP Capstone program, including AP Seminar and AP Research, Fatima has strengthened her communication skills, learned to express her ideas with confidence, and discovered the importance of stepping outside her comfort zone.
But behind her impressive accomplishments lies an even more meaningful source of motivation. When asked what drives her to work so hard, Fatima spoke about the friends and peers she left behind in Saudi Arabia, many of whom she believes are equally capable of achieving great things but may not have access to the same opportunities. “I need to take full advantage of what I was given,” she explained. That gratitude is reflected in everything she does, from her commitment to academic excellence to her willingness to serve others.
Fatima is especially appreciative of the educators who helped her navigate the transition to a new school and encouraged her to recognize her own potential. “They were the ones who recognized my potential when I didn’t,” she shared, reflecting on the teachers who challenged her to pursue more rigorous coursework and explore opportunities she might not otherwise have considered.
Looking ahead, Fatima hopes to attend the University of Pennsylvania and pursue a career in medicine. Although she has not yet chosen a specialty, cardiology and pediatrics are among her interests. She also hopes to continue developing her confidence and growing into the person she aspires to become. Outside the classroom, Fatima enjoys drawing, crocheting, and spending time with her family. One of her favorite pastimes is playing Roblox with her younger brother, a simple tradition that allows them to connect and create lasting memories.
As she prepares to graduate, Fatima hopes her legacy at Northeast High School will extend beyond academic achievements and leadership titles. Above all, she wants her teachers and classmates to remember her for the respect she showed others and the meaningful relationships she built along the way. Her story reminds us that success is not simply about how far we go, but also about recognizing the opportunities before us and using them to make a difference.
Please join us in congratulating Fatima Ali, our October Senior of the Month! Her perseverance, compassion, and commitment to excellence reflect the very best of Philadelphia’s students. Congratulations, Fatima! We are incredibly proud of all you have accomplished and look forward to the remarkable future ahead of you!
