uPar (Universal Protocol for Accommodations in Reading) is an online universal reading screener and assessment tool used by educators to determine if a student benefits from read-aloud accommodations (text-to-speech).
It is not a screen reader in the traditional sense (which are primarily for users who are blind or low-vision). Instead, uPar uses text-to-speech features during an assessment process to compare a student’s reading comprehension when reading silently versus listening to the text read aloud.
