Dear School District of Philadelphia Families:

Kindergarten registration for the 2024-2025 school year is now open. If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2024, please register them by May 31 to give them an opportunity to Thrive at Five.

There are three ways to register:

  • Online using this online registration portal
  • In-person at your catchment (neighborhood) school
  • In-person at the School District of Philadelphia Office of Student Enrollment & Placement – 440 N. Broad St. | 1st Floor, Suite 111

There are limited seats per school so it’s important to act quickly. Once seats are filled, no new students can be enrolled at that school. Registering early also gives families and children time to meet with school staff and become familiar with the school, which helps make the Kindergarten transition easier. District schools will hold two Kindergarten Open Houses: the first one is scheduled for March 5, with the second one occurring during the week of May 13th. Please check philasd.org/thriveatfive for exact times and locations.

The District also has a free full-day Pre-Kindergarten program, with about 175 Pre-K locations across the city to serve our youngest learners. This program offers a high-quality curriculum, special needs support, and opportunities for parent participation. To learn more and register, visit philasd.org/prek.

Research shows that children who attend pre-kindergarten and kindergarten build confidence, gain strong social-emotional skills, and are more likely to read at grade level by the end of kindergarten – all of which lays a strong foundation for their long-term academic success.

We all play a part in helping Philadelphia’s children thrive. So please don’t delay. Register your child for Kindergarten and Pre-K today!

In partnership,

Tony B. Watlington Sr., Ed.D.
Superintendent
The School District of Philadelphia
