Dear School District of Philadelphia Families:

Kindergarten registration for the 2021-2022 school year is now open. If you have a son or daughter who will be five years old on or before September 1st, please register them by May 28th to give them an opportunity to Thrive at Five.

There are four ways to register:

  • Online using this online registration portal.
  • In-person at the Education Center, by appointment only. Call 215-400-4290 to schedule.
  • Over the phone by calling your neighborhood school. Find your school’s phone number here.
  • Via dropbox in the lobby of the Education Center. Find more instructions here.

Registering by May 28th is important because it gives families and children time to meet with school staff and become familiar with a school, which helps make the kindergarten transition a smooth one. The District will hold a Kindergarten Open House Day on March 2 and a Kindergarten Open House Week beginning May 3. The open house may be virtual or in-person, depending on health and safety protocols. Please continue to visit philasd.org/thriveatfive for updates.

The District also has a Pre-Kindergarten program, with about 200 Pre-K locations across the city to serve our youngest learners. This program offers a high-quality curriculum, special needs support and opportunities for parent participation. Click here to learn more about Pre-Kindergarten.

Pre-K and kindergarten attendance sets children on a path to success in school and in life. During these years, they learn to play well with others, make friends, build confidence and begin to learn to read and write – all very important skills that help kids thrive.

Please don’t delay. Register your child for kindergarten today!

Sincerely,

William R. Hite Jr., Ed.D.

Superintendent
