Overview and Important Dates

The School District of Philadelphia offers thousands of programs and services across hundreds of schools. We hope every student Finds their Fit, this fall!

One of the most exciting parts of your education in Philadelphia is how you can customize your learning experience, by choosing a school that’s right for you. Every student is assigned a neighborhood school, from K-12, based on where they live. But if you are interested in any other school in the District, all you have to do is apply!

Once the School Selection Application Process opens on September 18, 2020; schools, families and students can access the online application to submit requests for the the school or schools you’d most like to attend for September 2021.  Please be mindful that the Application Process will close on November 6, 2020.

So spend some time getting to know your options. With CoVid19 and until the District is prepared to resume business as usual, Students & Families might not be able to visit schools (the traditional way) just yet.  However, please rest assured our schools with open spaces for Fall 2021, are readying themselves for Students & Families to discover some of their ‘best-kept secrets’ they have to offer.  Review all of the Career and Technical Education opportunities, available clubs, Advanced Placement courses and or Magnet Programs for things like music and performing arts.  Ask your friends and other family members about their experiences at different schools.  Talk with your counselor and review information on each of the school’s website to get familiar with your choices and making your final decisions.

September 18, 2020 @ 5:00 PM School Selection Application Window.
November 6, 2020 @ 11:59 PM School Selection Application Window Closes.
November 16, 2020 to January 5, 2021 Receiving School Evaluate (schools and programs with admission criteria).
January 8, 2021 Conduct lotteries, perform quality control process
January 15, 2021 @ 5:00 PM Initial notifications available! School District students/parents will be able to view their options in student and parent portals. Non-District families will be notified by e-mail.
January 16, 2021 to January 25, 2021 Students with one or more approvals MUST confirm their school choice. PLEASE NOTE- Approvals will change to “Decline- No response” if the student does not confirm an acceptance.
January 2021 to February 2021 Schools fill available seats with students from their wait lists.
February 12, 2021 @ 5:00 PM Final notifications available in the student and parent portals for school district students and families.

Participate in the very first Virtual High School Fair.  Exact date and time TBD.
