The EL Point and Educator Resources Hub is the go-to place for our EL Points, ELD and general education teachers, administrators, and other educators. Within this hub, you will find instructional resources to support all our multilingual learners, whether they are currently enrolled in ELD classes, Dual Language Programming, and/or general education classes.
ELD Instructional Resources
- ELD Instructional Guide – English Language Development (ELD) is instruction specifically designed to develop English proficiency and aligns with other guides grounded in the Common Core Standards. This document provides resources and guidance not only for ELD Classes, but also for all classes to ensure that our English Learners are receiving tailored instruction in all of their content classes.
- Helpful LInks for ELD – Please see this document for helpful links and key resources for ELD instruction
Dual Language Program Instructional Resources
Dual Language Instructional Guide – This Dual Language Instructional Guide encompasses all academic disciplines and guides all teachers of Dual Language Learners to implement high-leverage practices which facilitate both language acquisition and content knowledge/application. The Dual Language Instructional Guide also aligns with other guides grounded in the Common Core Standards.
Compliance
- Identification of English Learners
- Our English Learner Identification Procedure outlines the steps that should be taken with every newly enrolling, or re-enrolling, student who has a language other than English indicated in response to one or more of questions 1-6 of their Home Language Survey. Nuances are outlined within the document and within the When to Screen Guide in Appendix B.
- Eligible students must go through the EL Identification Procedure within the beginning of the year 30-day Identification Window (for students who enroll on or before the first day of school) or within the first 14 days of enrollment for students who enroll after the first day of school.
- In order to regularly check for eligible students, the EL New Enrollments report should be pulled from SIS at least every week. Every student on this list must go through the EL Identification Procedure within the legally mandated time frame.
- If there are students on your EL New Enrollments report from prior years/from outside of the identification time frame, please refer to Step 3 of the EL Identification Procedure for guidance. These students also should have gone through the EL Identification Procedure, and the only way to clear students from the listing is to go through the Identification Procedure with them and add an EL Initial Placement entry for them.
- WIDA Screener – the WIDA Screener Online can be launched via the DRC App in the Student Portal. All training information, and paper versions of the screener, can be found on the WIDA Secure Portal.
- If you have questions regarding the Identification Procedure, please reach out to your Multilingual Manager.
