2nd Annual Northeast Reading Family Extravaganza Fosters a Love of Reading in Children

The 2nd Annual Northeast Family Reading Extravaganza was held on May 17, 2018 at Abraham Lincoln High School. The event welcomed 350 families from across Northeast Philadelphia. This event was geared toward families with students in Kindergarten through fifth grade, but all were welcome. The event was an opportunity for staff, students, volunteers, and families to come together to encourage a love of reading.

Families received swag to start their day off. The kickoff ceremony included dignitaries from around the City of Philadelphia and featured a keynote speaker, author Pam Allen.

Families then transitioned into reading workshops which aimed to build reading strategies and techniques as well as an excitement of reading. Every child left with the book that was read during the workshop and children were able to pick an additional three books to take home.

The event also featured several vendors who provided important resources for families and offered refreshments throughout the evening. To end the amazing event, there were over 30 raffle items that families had chances to win. Staff, community members, and families alike look forward to seeing everyone at the event next year!
